How can a replacement/spare key for a Q2.15 be obtained?

Contact Breece Hill at 1-800-953-0550 and ask for a replacement key.

Can not see the robot with server or application.

These systems are shipped with the default setting for "AutoLoader" set to "ON". Set Autoloader to "OFF" and the SCSI ID of the Q215 controller will be seen by the HOST controller. Go in to setup mode and Turn OFF the Autoloader option.

Customer installed new Q215 and set the SCSI ID's but the Host Controller can not "see" the Robot SCSI ID.

Getting I/O Errors

Replaced the Controller card. The replacement card had Q7 Proms in it, the original controller proms were used. Still had problems inventorying the unit, a 2nd controller was tried with no change, The Q215 passes the confidence tests. Have quested the SCSI ID's be swapped between the working unit and the failing unit to see if the problem moves or stays with the Q215 and the customer refused this plan. Also One of the DLT 7000 Diff drives in the failing unit has a SCSI ID of "9" but the rotary wheel only goes to "7". That drive has the cable to the remote SCSI ID removed and the drive is jumpered to be SCSI ID "9" at the drive.

Customer having Problems Inventorying the unit. Has two Q215's attached to the same SCSI First one is fine.

Tape Alert Errors.

Download the firmware code and flash the CPU. Check http://www.breecehill.com/ftp for the Q2 Service guide to guide in firmware updates. The firmware is there too. The Q2 Service guide is applicable to all Breece Hill libraries which feature serial port flash capabilities.

Backup Exec is getting a tape alert message saying the library door is open but backups are working normally. Unit is a Q2.15 with 1.61 firmware. Seagate is version 8. Per Breece Hill tech support, 1.63 firmware eliminates the bogus tape alert messages.

Is the Q2.15 Compatible with Windows2000?

Yes

Yes

Can't unload tapes from DLT drives from the front console.

Uprev the library code to 1.60 or higher.

Q215 library will load tapes manually from the front console, but won't unload them.

Q215 has blocks in display. No data displayed.

This problem is caused by a poor connection with the Mylar cable that connects to the rear of the front console display. It will also manifest itself as missing pixels in some cases. This cable has a connector with a lock that needs to be released before removing the cable, then locked again after the cable is reinserted. The display pcb may have to be removed to do this, as the working space is very limited when installed in the library. TIP: The cable is long enough to allow it to be reconnected while the pcb is removed. Then the pcb can be re-inserted in the Q215. Reseat Mylar cable at connection in back of display.

Q215 only displays blocks in front panel display. Cannot operate front console buttons.

When integrating two Q2.15 tape libraries to make a Q4.30, do both CPUs need to be the same firmware revision?

Yes.

Error 53

The tape was stuck in the picker due to worn normal force wheels in the picker. When the interior of the unit was inspected, shavings from these wheels were found. The only solution is to replace the chassis because these wheels are not considered to be field replaceable.

Error: 53 - While homing the rack mechanism, a position error occurred due to a cartridge in the shuttle.

What is the jumper J4 for on the Q215 controller card?

J4 is inserted for Term Power, but since the DLT drives supply Term Power, it doesn't matter how it's jumpered.

What is the jumper J4 for on the Q215 controller card?

DLT 7000 drive in slot "A" of a Q2.15 will not load tapes properly.

After moving tape drive to slot "B" it functioned correctly...suspected chassis slot problem. Spoke with Breece Hill Boulder. Checked rollers in front of drive, reset datums. No help. Recommended trying another tape drive in slot "A". The new drive functioned properly in slot "A". Apparently a drive load plate alignment issue. After replacing the drive the customer was not able to complete a backup with the new drive in slot "B". Apparently the had file corruption previous to this as they did not bring the system down properly. Also could not label a tape. They were actually trying to label a tape without a tape in the drive. Suspect software problems with the ongoing i/o errors. They also are able to backup about 2gb before a error occurs, then a new tape is loaded, it get about 1gb before a device and i/o error. This continues with the amount of data completing a backup getting less per tape. Recommended trying a tar or dump directly to the tape drive without using Legato.

DLT 7000 drive in slot "A" of a Q2.15 will not load tapes properly.

Unable to read bar code labels in a Q2.15.

Ran drive load unload diagnostic but bar code labels still would not read. Verified no obstructions to the bar code label reader. Replaced the Bar code label reader LED array.

Labels in this unit are readable in two other Q2.15 libraries with no errors.

Error: 43 on a Q2.15 Drive A Handle did not operate.

The replaceable Field Replaceable Units are the drive A module, the controller, or the power module.

Error 14 on a Q2.15: Home of normal force actuator took too long.

Replace chassis

Error 14 on a Q2.15: Home of normal force actuator took too long.

Error 59 in display on Q2.15.

The Q215 tape library displays error code 59 during power up. Can't do anything with the library. This error is described as 'Incorrect machine configuration data read from serial EEPROM. This EEPROM is located on the motherboard of the Q215 and it is not a replaceable part. The motherboard has to be replaced. If corporate wants to do so they will send a motherboard but ordinarily we will replace the chassis assembly in this situation.

Error 59 in display on Q2.15.

Q47 display shows 'Drive Not Present' status for top drive. The top drive was getting write errors and was replaced, Now the replacement drive is not being seen by the CPU, another good drive is also not seen.

The CPU/controller was replaced but that did not solve the problem. Even the original drive won't work any more. We had the engineer remove the connector and internal wiring harness for the top drive and attach it in place of the B drive's harness. The cable harness worked fine in that position. So we put everything back to its original position and now all drives are being seen properly. It appears that the alignment of the connector for the top drive was slightly off and therefore when it was reattached, a slight correction was made.

Q47 display shows 'Drive Not Present' status for top drive. The top drive was getting write errors and was replaced, Now the replacement drive is not being seen by the CPU, another good drive is also not seen.

Veritas Backup Exec 7.0 fails to load the changer module with the Q2.15 DLT library.

Veritas's Backup Exec requires the Library's SCSI ID to be a lower number than any of the drives SCSI IDs.

The Q2.15 works with Backup Exec 6.x in Q7 Emulation mode. After upgrading to Backup Exec 7.0, the Library Changer moduler is never started so the library function is never enabled.

The top cover has been removed and the machine begins taking cartridge present or home normal force arm errors.

Do not use direct light or use a light that is not as bright and see if the problem goes away.

The light is too bright and it is corrupting the sensor operation in the shuttle.

How do I adjust the power supply on a Q2.15?

Adjust the pots R12 & R14. R12 adjusts current and R14 adjusts the voltage.  Adjust the current but avoid maximum settings. Low current can cause numerous problems with the robot CPU and drives malfunctioning. NOTE: Use Remote Diags command "!" to view the +5, +12 and +24 volts on the Q2.15 power supply.

  1. take voltage measurement via remote diags
  2. turn off ac power switch and remove ac power cord from power supply
  3. remove power supply from chassis and locate the pots
  4. adjust pots as needed. clockwise increases.
  5. reinstall the power supply, connect ac power and turn the power switch on
  6. take voltage measurement via remote diags and compare.
