What if I can't see the 8PAK at all in Windows 2000?
You should first try to download device drivers. If that doesn't work for you, you should also have it set to Q2 Emulation in order for it to be seen in Windows 2000.

To set up Q2 Emulation you must go through the Setup Menu.
• To get to the Setup Menu, power cycle your Library.
• When it is powering up, press and hold the Enter key for 3-5 seconds
• When the Library is done initializing, press the Menu key
• To change it to Q2, change the INQ option from 108 to Q2
• See Figure 1

• To save the above changes, press the Menu button once to get to the main Setup Menu. Scroll up so the arrow is next to the Save Changes option. Press Enter.
• Scroll down so the arrow is next to the Commit/Save option. Press Enter. You are now done with this option

Review Params - Displays the current library, drive information, and settings.
SCSI - Displays the library SCSI ID, parity, and inquiry string. Use this option if changing the library emulation, ID addressing, or SCSI parity check.
Auto Inventory - Forces the library to perform a cartridge inventory after a power outage.
Auto Clean - The drive notifies the library controller and issues a cleaning request. If there is a cleaning cartridge in cell number 7 (this is the right most storage cell), the drive will automatically be cleaned.

Several backup software packages on the market today support Auto-Cleaning, if the package you are using supports Auto-Cleaning; use either the one in the software or the library offered Auto Clean feature. Do not attempt to use both.

Power Up Mode - Allows the operator to turn on stacker mode, or leave the library in random access mode.
DRIVE ID - Allows the operator to change the SCSI ID address of the 8mm tape drive mounted inside the library.

Will my 8PAK/16PAK work with Windows XP?
Download drivers for the library from our site. If that doesn't work you can try the following fix.
If you copy the mchgr.inf file from Windows 2000 or NT 4.0 to Windows XP. This fix will not work for Server 2003. Then when you go to install the 8PAK and it asks for a driver, point to where you saved the inf file.

I am getting error messages the first time I powered up my 16PAK.
Check to see if you have both shiplocks removed. There is one on the shuttle and also one located on the SCI/E.

I keep seeing my display show A: THROAT what does this mean?
This shows you that there is a tape in the throat of the drive but is not physically loaded into the drive. You can clear this error condition in one of two ways. First you can try to do a move cartridge command via the front panel and move it from the drive to the cell it was picked from. If that doesn't work you can also remove it by opening the door of your library and simply pulling the tape out of the drive and placing it back into a storage cell. If this problem continues on a regular basis call our Technical Support number for further help.
